The Healthy Babies subcommittee of the Marathon County Early Years Coalition saw a need to provide a platform for parents to learn about safe sleep, car seat safety, and abusive head trauma (Shaken Baby Syndrome). A local hospital noticed that patients coming in for delivery were missing key education around these topics. The Healthy Babies committee looked at the data and knew something needed to be done to protect babies in Marathon County.

“Almost every year a baby dies in an unsafe sleep environment in Marathon County. It’s been as high as three deaths in a year,” says Eileen Eckardt, Director of Family Health & Communicable Disease at the Marathon County Health Department.

The subcommittee did research on millennial parents to determine how they best receive and learn information. The group decided on creative explainer videos that parents could watch that would cover the information in a short timeframe. Parents, you’ve got a superpower.
