Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin works to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. In developing the strategic plan for the mentorship organization, the question of “Why does Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northcentral Wisconsin matter?” needed to be answered. Executive Director, Jerry Lyon, found that answer at www.marathoncountypulse.org. He was able to quickly and easily locate credible data to show the need in the community and the reason why having a youth mentorship program is critical to so many children in Marathon County. “I looked through paper data sources and found some data points, but I was still missing a really compelling case for why Big Brothers Big Sisters is necessary to present to our board. Then I was introduced to Marathon County Pulse. I looked through the teen indicators, dropped them into the report builder, and hit print. It was that easy,” said Lyon.

Local data shows that positive relationships between youth and their mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. Pre- and post-survey data showed 84% of children served improved their level of confidence, 67% improved their level of competence, and 72% improved their level of caring. More kids will now be able to live healthier and more successful lives.
